Our New Small Group :-)

John and I begun a new small group through our church (New Life in Renton). New Life created this new category for those who have been married two years or less. The design and purpose of this new style of small group is to help newly married couples adjust, grow and to have a sturdier, firmer start to their marriage.
It's so important to know just how much work, patience and understanding is needed to make a marriage last. Love, sometimes just isn't enough and I firmly believe that being able to admit to that and be willing to learn new tools to help you and your partner understand one another, will assist you in your marriage and will also bring growth to you and your spouse. I think that is what all married couples really want anyways, right?
What a blessing it's been to have met each of you! We are very excited to get to know each and every one of you.

Our new friends Misty and Shayne have been married since April of this year and our other new friends Manny and Nicole have been married since this past August. And of course John and I, being the "old married couple" that we are (haha) have been married now for just over a year. We are expecting one or two more couples to join our group, and I think we are all excited to meet our new friends.
We are so excited to have the opportunity to develop relationships with those in our group. Ralph and Kim, our group leaders have been married now for almost 34 years! Now how many of you know just how amazing that is! Congratulations Ralph and Kim!!!
It's amazing yet so sad that the divorce rate is now up to 45% (according to an article in USA today). I can personally say that I fully intend to stay out of those statistics! It's so great to know that there are groups out there, and people to facilitate them, that feel the same way and are willing to share their experience's with others to hopefully bring those numbers down.
John and I, both have growing personal relationships with God and are extremely excited to be a part of such an amazing church and small group. Stay tuned...because I can assure you that I will be keeping you up to date on our new friends and small group. I hope that all of our newlyweds read this and possibly even find a small group of their own. Some of us are getting together this Saturday and will be attending the "Becoming Soulmates" marriage seminar with Drs. Les and Leslie Parrott at the Mercer Island Presbyterian Church . Tickets are $35 per person or $70 for the couple and includes lunch. The seminar is from 9:00am to 3:00pm. It's going to be a great seminar and there may be seats still available.
